Physicians encouraged to add listing to new Virtual Care Directory

Apr 7, 2020

UPDATED November 3, 2020:

'Pathways Virtual Care Directory' has now been changed to 'Pathways Medical Care Directory'

A new public-facing Pathways BC Medical Care Directory will help support patients and physicians with the shift to virtual care.

The directory will be a resource for patients to learn whether their doctor provides care by telephone and/or video. Patients can also contact their doctor's office for guidance about accessing virtual care, and for other clinic information that doctors want shared with patients.

Why add your information to the directory?

It appears that many patients are not aware their doctor is providing care by telephone and/or video. It is important they do not bypass their own physician, who has a relationship with them and knows their medical history, to seek care elsewhere. We want to make it easy for patients to find out if their doctor delivers virtual care services, or not.

Each listing will provide basic contact information. Some physicians may want to provide only their phone number and address. Others will want to include information about the virtual care services they offer, and directions on how their patients can access this care. Only information that is already publicly available or that you agree to provide will be posted.

We encourage you to join this initiative to let your patients know you are available by phone and/or video.

Physician Q and A:

Will patients use the directory as a way to look for a family doctor?

The directory is not set up for this function at this time. Discussions are underway about the possibly creating a virtual care network for unattached patients. If this happens, patients could be directed to that network through this same directory. Watch for more information on that.

Is this for family doctors only?

We are also currently working to gather information from specialist physicians.
